  • Adhesive must be installed on a substrate that meets the SUITABLE SURFACES guideline.

  • Adhesive must be installed on a surface after the SUITABLE PREPARATION guideline has been followed.

  • Adhesive must be used with an approved floor covering, using the required application.

  • Kennedy Floorings accepts no responsibility for product failure extending from or related to failure to meet job area/environment and subfloor requirements. If the installation is for a newly built home or construction, the installer/owner must ensure all windows and doors are installed and that wall and floor boards are completely dry and that the homes HRV/heating/air-conditioning system is functional and running at living conditions to which the floor will be maintained. It is recommended that flooring be the last stage in a construction project.

  • Properly primed gypsum based underlayment’s that meet the ASTM F2419 requirements for compressive strength.
  • Concrete and radiant heated subfloors (should be turned off 24hrs prior to installation).
  • Radiant heated substrates – Maximum 85° F.

Substrate Testing

  • RH: 99% [ASTM F2170] With Limitations.
  • Precautionary Note: Un1 GLU Ultra is not a moisture mitigation system and should not be used as one. It simply means that the adhesive will hold up under high moisture conditions, however floor
  • covering may have adverse effects.
  • pH: Between 7-12 [ASTM F710] With Limitations.

PRECAUTIONARY NOTE: THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT FORM A MOISTURE VAPOR BARRIER AND WILL NOT PROTECT FLOOR COVERING FROM HIGH MOISTURE AND pH.

PLEASE CONSULT KENNEDY FLOORINGS SUPPORT LINE FOR SUBSTRATES NOT LISTED.

Surface Preparation

NOTE: FOLLOW FLOORING MANUFACTURERS GUIDELINES. SUBSTRATES MUST BE PREPARED PER ASTM F710 BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Concrete substrates must be dry, smooth, solid, structurally sound and level.

  • Substrates should be clean and free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, paint, curing agents, concrete sealers; topical or entrained, loosely bonded toppings, adhesive residue, loose particles, and any other substance or condition that may prevent or reduce adhesion.

  • Fill all surface cracks, grooves, depressions, non-moving joints with a moisture resistant patching or self-leveling compounds.

  • Substrate, adhesive and floor covering must be acclimated in an enclosed building with HVAC in operation for 48 hours prior, during, and continuously after installation is complete.

  • Ambient temp must be between 60°-90° Fahrenheit.

  • Relative humidity must be between 30-65% during and following installation.

  • When installing over radiant heated subfloors, heat should be turned off 24 hours before, during, and after installation. When turning radiant heat back on, do so in 5° increments per hour to desired heat temperature. Floor temperature should not exceed 85° Fahrenheit.

WET SET Installation

Only use this installation method on porous substrates.

*If unfamiliar with a product, always perform a bond test. Spread a small area of adhesive and install the desired floor covering into the adhesive to ensure the desired bond is achieved.*

  1. Complete the Surface Preparation and any testing to are met as found in the Suitable Substrates and Testing section of this guide.
  2. Spread adhesive using recommended trowel or roller as needed for desired flooring type found in the Flooring, Application, & Limitations section of this guide.
  3. After spreading the adhesive using the recommended trowel, wait 15-25 minutes for adhesive to flash off installing sheet vinyl into the semi-wet adhesive with transfer to floor covering backing.
  4. Working time: 20-30 minutes depending on ambient conditions and porosity of the substrate.
  5. Be sure to install flooring during the working time of the adhesive.
  6. After installation, roll flooring with 75-100lb roller to ensure proper adhesive transfer.
    • Sheet goods: Roll from the center towards the perimeter to allow expelling of trapped air.
    • Check flooring after 2 hours and roll again if necessary.
    • Wait 6 hours before heat welding on sheet goods.
    • Wait 48 hours before wet mopping, stripping, finishing the floor, or moving rolling loads over the installation area.
  7. Follow the After Installation section of this guide.

DRY SET (pressure sensitive) Installation

Installation method can be used on both porous and non-porous substrates.

  3. After spreading the adhesive using the recommended trowel, wait 30-60 minutes for adhesive to flash off. When ready the adhesive will turn translucent and will not transfer to fingertips when touched.
  4. Working time: Up to 12 hours depending on ambient conditions and porosity of the substrate.
  5. Be sure to install flooring during the working time of the adhesive and only apply as much adhesive as can be installed within a 12 hour period. Protect the adhesive from dust and debris, which will
inhibit proper adhesive bond and decrease tack.
    • Wait 24 hours before wet mopping, stripping, finishing the floor, or moving rolling loads over the installation area.
  7. Follow the After Installation section of this guide.

Cleanup

  • While wet, use a cloth and soapy water to remove wet adhesive.
